Remembering Inspirational Limerick Woman Who Lived and Thrived Despite Numerous Lifelong Challenges
Anastasia Pagan, an inspirational Limerick woman who persevered despite numerous lifelong physical challenges, died on May 20 at 22, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Pagan was born with a diaphragmatic hernia, chromosome abnormality, and pulmonary hypertension. She spent the majority of her life with her family in Montgomery County, and in hospitals and rehabilitation centers.
Staff at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia got to know her well during her prolonged stays, when she eagerly interacted with music and art therapists and made friends with other patients. Even though she was nonverbal, she was able to express herself through hugs, smiles, and laughter.
“Anastasia was a wonderful young woman,” said one of her nurses, “and it was a pleasure to care for her and [her] family through the years.”
Pagan served as a loving daughter and sister despite her daily challenges, as well as being an influencer to other family members and friends. She had both good and difficult days, but she always bounced back, said her mother Vanessa Jackson.
“You have overcome everything that was meant to break you down,” wrote Jackson on Instagram. “Your fight inspires me.”
