Bucks County State Rep.’s New Bill Targets Plastic Bottle Waste with Innovative Water Stations

State Rep. Perry Warren of Bucks County has drafted a bill to combat the environmental issue of plastic bottle waste.

State Rep. Perry Warren of Bucks County has drafted a bill to combat the environmental issue of plastic bottle waste, prompted by a conversation with a student intern, writes Greg Vellner for The Reporter.

The concern arose from the staggering sale of approximately 100 billion plastic beverage containers last year in the U.S. alone, with many ending up in streets or waterways instead of recycling bins.

Warren’s legislative inspiration came from three pivotal experiences: using a water bottle filling station at Philadelphia International Airport, visiting a national park, and seeing an exhibit on plastic waste at the park’s visitor center.

These events led him to propose a bill that mandates the installation of water bottle filling stations in new and renovated state buildings, promoting the reuse of water bottles.

The bill, House Bill 1169, has successfully passed the state House and is now under Senate consideration. According to Warren, the legislation benefits both environmental and public health by providing a more hygienic alternative to traditional drinking fountains and reducing plastic waste.
