Breast cancer surgeon Dr. Monique Gary, affectionately known to her patients as “Dr. Mo,” has traded the bustling city life of Philadelphia for the tranquility of a 40-acre farm in Perkasie, writes Wendy Ruderman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Dr. Mo has transformed her new home into a sanctuary where wellness is the only crop cultivated.
Still Rise Farm in Perkasie hosts free daylong retreats for cancer patients, providing a holistic approach to healing with activities such as nature walks, yoga by a serene fish pond, and various wellness workshops including aromatherapy, juicing, and cooking demonstrations.
Dr. Gary, who serves as the medical director of the cancer program at Grand View Health/Penn Cancer Network, emphasizes the importance of treating the “whole person” — a concept that integrates mind, body, and spirit into cancer care.
Her approach is deeply personal, driven by the loss of her mother to cancer at a young age and a family history marked by the disease.
Her philosophy extends beyond physical health, addressing emotional and spiritual well-being.
Dr. Gary advocates for “food as medicine,” emphasizing a diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric, ginger, and berries, which are known for their cancer-fighting properties.
