The surgeon bought the property several years ago.

Dr. Monique Gary, a breast cancer surgeon and director of the cancer program at Grand View Health in Sellersville, treats her patients with a holistic approach, according to a staff report from the WHYY.

“I get to address the whole person and I get to cut out the cancer,” said Gary, “and that makes me feel pretty privileged.“

While most of her work still involves a scalpel and the latest medical technology, she believes that some of her most important efforts take place outside of the hospital setting.

This includes the 39-acre Still Rise Farm in Perkasie the doctor purchased about a year ago. The property has fruit trees, a lodge, horse stables, a fish-stocked freshwater pond, a pool, and a stunning view.

In October, Gary hosted her first retreat for breast cancer survivors and patients at the farm. The weekend included everything from yoga to massages to cooking demonstrations.

This retreat was the first step in creating a much larger incubator for cancer wellness.

“I have a lot of big dreams, and I always tell my students, if your dreams aren’t scaring you, they’re not big enough,” says Gary.
