Bucks County Tops Pennsylvania for Highest Teacher Salaries in 2023
Bucks County stands out in Pennsylvania for its top-ranking average teacher salary, as revealed by data from the National Education Association (NEA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, writes Chris Ullery for the Bucks County Courier Times.
During the 2023-2024 school year, Bucks County educators earned an average of $93,944, the highest in the state, followed closely by Montgomery County at $93,790.
In Pennsylvania, the average teacher salary was $74,945 last year, ranking 11th nationwide.
New Hope-Solebury School District in Bucks County tops the state with an average salary of $111,968.
Nationally, teacher salaries increased by 4.1 percent to $69,544 for the 2022-2023 school year and are projected to rise by another 3.1 percent to $71,699 in the 2023-2024 school year.
However, when adjusted for inflation, teachers are earning about 5 percent less than five years ago.
Most school districts start teachers at under $50,000, with a mere 16.6 percent of districts offering top salaries exceeding $100,000.
