Former president Donald Trump made a stop in Newtown this weekend, ahead of his trial in Manhattan, write Anthony R. Wood, Aliya Schneider, and Jesse Bunch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The visit was to attend a private fundraiser hosted by longtime GOP donors. Trump later spoke at a rally in the Lehigh Valley.

Tickets for the fundraising event at the Newtown athletic club started at $2,500.

Recent state surveys, including the Franklin and Marshall poll, show Biden narrowly leading Trump by two points within the margin of error, while Bucks County emerges as a critical battleground in the Philadelphia region with its nearly 475,000 voters evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, making it the area’s sole purple county.

In a strategic move, President Biden has also been making monthly trips out to Pennsylvania.
