Rendering of Solesis manufacturing site in Costa Rica. The Telford based company recently announced a new leader and planned expansion for 2025.

John Witkowski has been appointed as the new CEO of Solesis, a Telford-based company specializing in biomaterials for medical devices and biopharmaceuticals, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

He takes over from Karen West, who left after a twenty-year tenure. Witkowski transitions to Solesis from DSM Biomedical, where he served as president, bringing nearly three decades of industry experience to his new role.

His previous positions include significant roles at Bemis Manufacturing Co., Nypro Healthcare, and Knee Creations

Under his leadership, Witkowski plans to focus initially on connecting with the company’s teams in Pennsylvania and North Carolina to enhance his understanding of Solesis’ operations and needs.

Solesis, founded in 2002, operates through Charter Medical, Polyzen, SanaVita Medical, and Secant Group, employing 450 staff across these locations.

The company recently announced a strategic expansion with a new manufacturing facility set to open in Costa Rica by spring 2025. This move aims to boost Solesis’ global production capacity and mitigate supply chain risks.

Witkowski’s long-term objectives include aggressively expanding Solesis’ market presence. Solesis is currently majorly owned by Altaris Capital Partners, with the Michelin Group holding a significant minority stake.
