Norristown’s 14-Year-Old Soccer Sensation Cavan Sullivan to Join Manchester City After Union Start
The Philadelphia Union has agreed to terms on a deal with Manchester City for Norristown’s 14-year-old soccer wunderkind Cavan Sullivan, writes Jonathan Tannenwald for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Sullivan will begin his professional career with the Union before joining Manchester City. He will remain in the Philadelphia area before joining Manchester City when he turns 18 years old.
While no formal contracts are in place, Sullivan’s upcoming agreement is anticipated to set a new benchmark as the most lucrative ever for an MLS academy player.
According to The Athletic, if Sullivan were to make significant progress and decided to leave MLS by 16, he could transfer to one of City Football Group’s EU teams thanks to having a German passport.
Due to England not being part of the EU, Sullivan couldn’t play for Manchester until the age of 18.
Soccer runs deep in Sullivan’s family. His brother Quinn had a breakout year for the Union and their father teaches history at the Union-run high school.
