How Pennsbury’s Mia Popovich Vaulted from Gymnast to Lacrosse Legend
Pennsbury senior Mia Popovich swiftly transitioned from a gymnastics enthusiast to a lacrosse standout, earning her the position of team captain for two consecutive years, writes Drew Markol for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Popovich, who had dedicated nine years to gymnastics, was unfamiliar with lacrosse until a friend introduced her to the sport during her freshman year.
Despite initial challenges, her adaptative qualities caught the eye of Pennsbury’s head coach, Marguerite McDonald, who praised Popovich’s quick grasp of the game and leadership qualities.
Popovich’s athletic journey didn’t stop with lacrosse; she also ventured into field hockey, starting on the varsity team in her junior year.
Her skills on the field and her leadership ability have not only made her a role model within her team but also attracted attention from collegiate programs.
Popovich has committed to play Division One lacrosse at Siena College, attracted by its welcoming team atmosphere and diverse academic opportunities.
As she prepares to graduate, Popovich’s legacy continues to inspire younger athletes at Pennsbury, who have followed in her footsteps.
