NOVA Bucks, the Network of Victim Assistance, is celebrating its 50th anniversary, continuing its mission to support and protect victims.

The Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA) in Bucks County is celebrating its 50th anniversary, continuing its mission to support and protect victims, writes Ed Doyle for TapintoDoylestown.

Since its inception in 1974, NOVA has broadened its focus to include a wide range of crimes, excluding domestic violence, which is addressed by A Woman’s Place

Under the leadership of Executive Director Penelope Ettinger, NOVA has adapted to technological advances and emerging crime types, serving over 100,000 victims and providing education to nearly 1 million individuals.

The organization is renowned for its in-school programs that educate around 30,000 students, parents, and teachers annually on personal safety and the impact of technology on social interactions.

The Children’s Advocacy Center, a key component of NOVA, offers a child-friendly environment for conducting forensic interviews, minimizing re-traumatization for young victims.

As NOVA looks to the future, it continues to champion the concept of “upstanders” in the community, encouraging proactive support for those in need.

With a shift towards empowering language, referring to clients as survivors rather than victims, NOVA reaffirms its commitment to providing a safe space for healing and advocacy.
