Haverford College is hoping to increase its endowment to $1 billion, partly to fund new campus upgrades.

Haverford College will be shifting into high gear in fundraising over the next several years as it works on procuring an ambitious $1 billion endowment to fund several new campus projects, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Haverford College President Wendy Raymond said they need about a 50 percent increase in donations to push the current endowment from millions to billions.

As of June 30,2023, its most recent fiscal year, the endowment was at $643.2 million.

The college is looking at improvements to its 200-acre campus and retained Boston design firm Sasaki in October for campus planning. A long-term vision will be revealed in May that will take Haverford to 2045.

Priorities will be a new residential hall and a new Institute for Ethical Inquiry and Leadership.

“This is an innovation that will distinguish us from all other small colleges because of our undergraduate focus in thinking about ethics,” Raymond said. “There are many ethics institutes across the nation at big universities and even small colleges, but it is unusual to have this focus in the liberal arts.”

Athletic facility upgrades, including a new turf field and an expanded fitness center, are also in the works.
