At a recent gathering in a packing facility, workers with disabilities and their families rallied to support job opportunities.

At a recent gathering at a Lower Southampton Township packing facility, Matt Thibodeau, a Middletown Township resident, expressed satisfaction with his job, emphasizing the benefits it brings, including “good money, good paycheck!” Tom Sofield for Levittown Now.

Thibodeau is one of over 300 individuals with disabilities employed by Associated Production Services (APS) in Bucks County and Philadelphia, which provides specialized job opportunities that are not widely available elsewhere.

During the event, Thibodeau’s mother, Gail, shared concerns about state and federal policies that might jeopardize such employment opportunities.

She stressed the importance of specialized support for people like her son and the critical role these jobs play in providing not just income but also a structured environment for social interaction and personal development.

State Senator Frank Farry, alongside local representatives, rallied at a press conference in support of APS and similar organizations.

They challenged state policies that dismiss these workplaces as “last resorts” and argued for greater autonomy in employment choices for intellectually disabled individuals.

Founded 47 years ago by Jay Belding, a former special education teacher, APS has become a cornerstone of the community.
