Du Pont Family Member and Venture Capital Entrepreneur Hints Future Innovation at Longwood Gardens

By

A du Pont family entrepreneur is telling The Philadelphia Inquirer that people can expect to hear more about products and investments coming from Kennett Square’s esteemed Longwood Gardens, writes Joseph DiStefano for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Ben du Pont, the most prominent living family member, is using his venture capital fund Chartline Capital Partners to invest an initial $36 million in start-ups across the mid-Atlantic region.

The focus is on fintech companies that improve the financial health of low- and moderate-income people and communities.

Du Pont discussed his venture capital firm’s upcoming plans and projects. The former du Pont estate, Longwood Gardens, has been expanding indoors and building more greenhouses.

“Their garden technology is a marvel. They are creating new kinds of flowers, hybridizing, controlling humidity, soil, air, droplet sizes, all kinds of innovations for plants to flourish.” said du Pont.

In terms of tourists and Chester County residents hearing investments and products coming from the botanical splendor, he said, “You can expect that you will be hearing more about Longwood.”
