Darts are becoming increasingly more popular in Philadelphia once again, with the city’s dart leagues currently thriving, writes Henry Savage for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Bonnie Situation is a member of the Olde English Dart League. The team of servers, bartenders, and a trucking logistics supervisor gather each week for four-hour battles that result in bragging rights and an occasional t-shirt.

“Shooting darts gives you camaraderie,” said Anthony Santini, a founding member of The Bonnie Situation. “None of us are young and spry enough to play competitive organized sports anymore, but a lot of us were college athletes playing lacrosse, wrestling, basketball. We all have that competitive heart, and now we can shoot darts and drink a beer while we do it.”

The teams make their home bases at dozens of bars and clubs across the city, including the Taproom on 19th.

Currently, there are more than 2,000 players engaged in Philadelphia’s organized dart leagues.

One of the city’s oldest leagues, the Quaker City English Dart League, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. When it started in 1974, the league had just a few teams. Today, it numbers 1,400 players across more than 100 teams.
