Cummins School of Irish Dance in Jenkintown has been sharing the art of Irish dance for over 23 years, writes Janelle Burrell for CBS News Philadelphia.

This Sunday will be a special day for the dancers at the school because they will be participating in Philadelphia’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The studio is run by two sisters Noreen McAleer and Kerri Meenagh, and their mother, Frances Cummins Donahue.

Donahue was a competitive dancer as a girl in Dublin and she passed on her love of dance to her daughters.

“We thought like, ‘Oh my God, let’s try, it would be nice to run a dance school,” Donahue said.

“It’s just so nice to pass the Irish heritage on to the next generation of Irish in Philadelphia,” McAleer said.

“Not all dancers have to be Irish. They can be from any nationality. It’s just a fun culture to pass on.”

Cummins School of Irish Dance teaches dancers of all ages, not just young kids. Some of the adults will also be performing in Sunday’s parade too.

“Seeing them take the Irish culture and pass that on to others through dance and through music, just makes our family so happy,” McAleer added.
