Thanks to a group of Council Rock North High School students, the Hershey Kiss could become the official candy of The Keystone State, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.

After being passed by the state’s House, the bill to crown the Kiss is headed to a Senate committee.

In 2021, a group of Newtown Middle School students proposed the bill who are now juniors at Council Rock North.

The members of the Hershey Kiss Committee reached out to the Hershey Company and joined forces with State Rep. Tom Mehaffi. Together, they embarked on a mission to lobby legislators and spread the word about their cause.

If enacted into law, the Hershey Kiss will join other state symbols such as the white-tailed deer, or the hellbender salamander as the state amphibian, secured by twenty high school students in 2019.
