The Bensalem Owls are enjoying a productive season both on the court and in their volunteering efforts, writes Tom Moore for the Bucks County Courier Times.

For the third time in five years, since Ron Morris took over as head coach, the team has managed to qualify for the PIAA state boys basketball championships.

But it is their activities off the court that might be even more successful. The players have decided to adopt Morris’ “it’s bigger than basketball” credo that highlights helping others and volunteering.

Following that credo, the team has been constantly busy volunteering within the community. The players have been reading and interacting with students at Cornwells and Valley elementary schools, making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with the girls basketball team to donate to Caring for Friends. They also held a girls/boys doubleheader on autism awareness night, among many other activities.

“Life skills are being instilled without them knowing, (such as) teamwork, sacrifice, time management, resilience, work ethic, and being a good person,” said Morris. “It gives a good perspective on the influence you can have on others.”
