A Yardley-based med-tech firm, Astarte Medical, that focuses on software solutions to improve conditions for premature infants, is ceasing operations, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Astarte developed the clinical support platform NICUtrition, that addresses unmet needs in hospitals’ neonatal intensive-care units.

Struggles to meet targets that would make the company attractive to investors was the reason behind the decision to shut down the company, according to Astarte’s co-founder and CEO Tracey Warren.

The goals included doubling its customer base and introducing another product, which would have required raising up to $7 million.

Astarte’s setbacks were due to many hospitals struggling financially following the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this, the purchase of new technology had to be delayed.

Astarte Medical, which started at a staff of 15, dwindled to seven employees following COVID-19.

Astarte will continue to remain in business as the process begins to dissolve it though a licensing deal or asset sale for its intellectual property.
