The Pennsylvania Office of Outdoor Recreation recently published a report that broadly details its mission and lays out its initial priorities, according to a staff report from Levittown Now.

The office was established last year to support the state’s outdoor sector and provide the industry with a direct line to the government.

The plans outlined in the new report include setting up a business alliance, an equity fund and performing economic impact studies along with policy reviews.

Many of the plans revolve around business partnerships and community-level efforts “guided and empowered, but not directly implemented by the office,” according to the report.

If successful, the agency’s work will transform the industry for all stakeholders, including residents, local governments, and businesses, said Nathan Reigner, the state’s outdoor recreation director.

The office aims to establish partnerships to help create more trails and greenways, prompt communities to integrate outdoor recreation into their development projects and health plans, and advertise Pennsylvania’s outdoors to people considering moving to the state.

“It is my hope that people will see headway, will see progress, will see ways that outdoor recreation is improving the lives and economic prospects of Pennsylvanians in their own communities,” said Reigner.
