Celebrate Mardi Gras in Bucks County: Where to Find the Best King Cakes

As Mardi Gras approaches, there are plenty of places in Bucks County selling traditional king cakes to kick off the festivities.

As Mardi Gras approaches, there are plenty of places in Bucks County selling traditional king cakes to kick off the festivities, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times.  

The ring-shaped cinnamon cake is usually topped off with icing in traditional Mardi gras colors; purple, green, and gold. A plastic baby is hidden in each cake, to represent Baby Jesus or a symbol of good luck.  

Altomonte’s Italian Market & Deli in Doylestown and Warminster is a go-to for pre-ordering king cakes. It’s recommended to order at least 48 hours in advance, though walk-ins are welcome. 

Brown’s Doughnut and Pastry in Dublin offers the option to order ahead online or by phone, with pick-ups available on Tuesday.  

Cramer’s Bakery in Yardley is known for its quality. Cakes can be ordered a day in advance by phone. Baby and beads are not provided with their cakes. 

Fritz’s Bakery, with a location in Langhorne, is famous for its king cakes made from hand-rolled sweet dough, filled with butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar, and topped with colorful melted whipped cream cheese icing.
