Bucks County Celebrates Black History Month with Performances, Poetry and More
Bucks County, a key location in African American history, celebrates Black History Month with an array of enriching events, according to Damon C. Williams for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Yardley’s Gather Place Museum is hosting a one-woman performance to highlight the significance of the town’s role in the Underground Railroad.
Performer and Gather Place founder Shirley Lee Corsey will be commemorating the legacy of Black Civil War veterans through her multimedia performance called “Journey Through Time: The Underground Railroad Unveiled.”
This free event will take place Feb. 10 at the Yardley-Makefield Library at 2 PM.
You can also find Corsey at Gather Place on Feb. 17 in her one-woman performance as Harriet Tubman.
The Bristol Riverside Theatre is hosting “A Raisin in the Sun” through Feb. 18. This play by Lorraine Hansberry follows the life of a family in 1950s Chicago who face racial discrimination and economic challenges.
North Penn High School’s African American and Allies Club will be hosting a showcase event full of performances, dances, poetry, and skits highlighting the Black experience in the United States and abroad.
