While most people usually only fly on well-known airline carriers, there are several viable boutique airline options that can change the way you fly, writes Barbara Peterson for The Wall Street Journal.

These mostly new operations offer flights to just a few strategic destinations but promise their customers both a better ride and savings.

According to some airfare experts, travelers can save 25 percent or more by booking a premium seat on one of these lesser-known carriers when compared to a mainstream airline premium economy or business class ticket. There are some caveats, such as availability, which can vary by season and flights, that may not be available every day of the week.

One of the most popular boutique lines, La Compagnie, a decade-old airline based in Paris. The carrier has defied the odds to continue operating as an all-business-class airline that flies across the Atlantic. The carrier only flies two planes, which travel between New York City and Paris, Nice, or Milan. Roundtrip tickets from Newark start at $2,400.

BeOnd started operating last fall as a “premium leisure airline” that is focused strictly on Maldives. It has one 44-seat all-lay-flat Airbus A319 that flies from Zurich and Munich to the capital of Malé several times a week. The airline charges around $3,000 for a roundtrip.

BermudAir is the British island territory’s first homegrown carrier. Flights are currently available from Boston, Fort Lauderdale, and White Plains, N.Y. One-way fares from the U.S. cost between $99 for coach to $399 in business class.

Finally, Starlux is a new airline based in Taiwan. This self-styled “luxury” airline also has a large economy class. It flies between Taipei and Los Angeles or San Francisco and has recently added more lines to the tourist hot spot of Chiang Mai in Thailand.
