Black Bears in Bucks and Montgomery Counties Spared from Hunting Season’s Toll

Out of all the bears that were hunted down across Keystone State, none in Bucks and Montgomery Counties faced a similar fate.

Black bears in Bucks County can breathe a sigh of relief.  

Out of all the 2,920 that were hunted down across Keystone State, none in Bucks and Montgomery Counties faced a similar fate, writes Greg Vellner for The Reporter.  

According to a Pennsylvania Game Commission report, there have been several sightings of Black bears in Bucks and Montgomery Counties, including in Upper Makefield and Newtown.  

The number of black bear hunters has only grown over the past two decades, now entering its fifth consecutive year of over 200,000.  

The white-tailed deer is the only species that faces off with more hunters than black bears.  

The number of black bears hunted down, however, has seen a decline from 3,170 in 2022 to just under 3,000 last year.
