Wrightstown’s historic Wycombe House closed its doors late last month, one year after re-opening, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times.
A Facebook post announcing its closure cited financial constraints due to inflation in food prices as the reason for its shuttering.
However, the iconic village mainstay’s story isn’t over yet.
Ever since the announcement, buyers have been “flooding [the business] with offers,” according to its owner Jerry Driscoll.
He tells the Bucks County Courier Times that the business recently accepted an offer from a buyer. While specific details about the buyer cannot be given, he says it’s someone involved with a “popular restaurant in Newtown.”
The owner intends to retain the original menu and ambiance of the restaurant.
Originally built over a century ago, the initial version of the Wycombe landmark was a restaurant and hotel called the “Wycombe Inn.”
It’s operated under many different names since its inception, including the Wycombe Pub and Grill and the Wycombe Publick House.
Driscoll purchased the building in 2022 for $1 million and invested between $700,000 to $800,000 in upgrades.
