Doylestown Health Pursues Game-Changing Merger with Penn Medicine
In a major move, Doylestown Health is pursuing a merger with The University of Pennsylvania Health System to further expand the presence of Penn Medicine in Bucks County, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The merger, announced Thursday, aims to expand access to advanced health care in the northern suburban communities outside of Philly.
Doylestown Health boasts of being one of the last independent hospital operators in the region but will soon become part of Penn Medicine.
Doylestown Health reported a loss of $16 million in 2023 and sold its Pine Run Retirement Community to Presbyterian Senior Living.
The merger is projected to take a year to complete. The next step involves both parties to sign a definitive agreement and submit it to federal and state regulators for approval.
Penn Medicine is no stranger to Bucks County, as it is already in a clinical partnership with Penn Medicine and Sellersville-based Grand View Health.
The merger is designed to build on the existing partnership between Doylestown Health and Penn Medicine.
