David B. Tilove, a revered former lawyer and celebrated legal aid director, passed away at 82 at his Pittsburgh home, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Tilove, previously from Hulmeville, Bucks County, dedicated his 41-year career to ensuring legal aid and representation were accessible to all.
He held pivotal roles at Bucks County Legal Aid Society, Lehigh Valley Legal Services, and North Penn Legal Services.
Throughout his career, Tilove faced challenges like inconsistent funding and increasing cases but remained a steadfast champion for his cause.
He was instrumental in organizing legal workshops, setting up hotlines, and recruiting lawyers for pro bono work, constantly striving to alter the status quo for the betterment of public legal participation.
His efforts were recognized with a 2008 excellence award from the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network.
Tilove’s commitment to social justice was evident early on, marked by his arrest during a protest against the Vietnam War in 1968. He led a life of diverse interests, from playing guitar to English country dancing, always cherishing time with his family.
