Amber Howard, a Bensalem High School senior, is known both for her moves on the basketball court and her artistic talent, writes Melissa Hanejko for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Howard has been one of the leading scorers in the Suburban One League for the last several seasons. She hit double digits in every game this season and recently scored her 1,000th career point.

Howard has been heavily recruited since she was a freshman. In August, she announced she would continue her basketball career at NC A&T, one of the several Division I schools that extended offers to her. Making that decision felt liberating, she noted.

“This year I am playing more freely, whereas last year I felt like I was always playing for college coaches,” Howard said. “I was afraid of making mistakes and was really hard on myself. This year, I’m having a lot more fun.”

In addition to playing basketball, Howard has been honing her artistic skills over the past three years in art classes at Bensalem. One of her works currently adorns a wall in the school’s art room.
