Suzanne Sheer is a South Philly-based musician, singer-songwriter.

While walking home from the grocery store with friends on a recent Monday evening, Suzanne Sheer spotted a piano her neighbor had discarded on the sidewalk along Broad Street and decided to play it, writes Heather J. Chin for Billy Penn at WHYY.

On the piano, she played an original song titled, “Pop Star,” set to be released in 2024, while her friend recorded it.

The 87-second video of Sheer went relatively viral on Reddit. Some praised her talents, while others questioned the validity of the video.

Was she really singing live? Was the piano staged? Was it all just an elaborate plot to promote her latest musical project?

Those were some of the questions asked.

Sheer sees the doubts and speculation as compliments.

“I think it’s really cool that people think it sounds good enough that they think I recorded it in a studio and we’re just pretending,” she said.

However, Sheer claims that she simply propped her phone up, used her Voice Memo, and her friend recorded the video.

“It’s a great example of the quality recording you can get just using your phone,” said Sheer.

That experience has helped her with her career and it’s something she’ll always remember.
