The Oscar Hammerstein Museum held the gala to raise funds to buy the property.

A recent gala at the Oscar Hammerstein Museum was able to raise a large amount of funds in an effort to buy a property own by the namesake producer and Bucks County native. Brooke Straiton wrote about the event in the Bucks County Herald.

“Broadway Sings The Sound of Hammerstein,” was held at the Oscar Hammerstein Museum and Theatre Education Center (OHMTEC) on July 11. $165,000 was raised from the event, which was held at The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm.

Broadway stars Christy Altomare, Derek Klena and Justin Guarini acted as the entertainment of the evening.

The funds will be used in an effort to purchase Highland Farms, a property Hammerstein owned during his lifetime.

Hammerstein was known for his collaborations with composer Richard Rodgers. Together, the duo wrote music for the popular musicals “Oklahoma!”, “Carousel”, “The King and I”, and “The Sound of Music”. Sam von Trapp, the grandson of Baroness Maria von Trapp, was in attendance. A member of OHMTEC’s Honorary Advisory Board, von Trapp provided the beer for the event from the family’s brewery in Stowe, Vermont.
