The owners of Guru’s Indian Cuisine in Newtown are shutting their business doors to focus on growing their family.

The owners of Guru’s Indian Cuisine in Newtown are shutting their restaurant doors for four months to focus on growing their family, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Priya Guru and Ashni Kumar initiated an adoption process in early 2020 of two sisters living in India. They described it as an “arduous three-year endeavor,” which took a toll on their emotional health and finances.

The two girls were about to be sold into child labor before Guru and Kumar opted to adopt them.

To expediate the process, and to ensure a smooth transition for their daughters, the couple is closing their restaurant on Jan. 7 for a few months so they can travel to India to live with their two girls.

The business, which has been open for nine years, will return in the spring. Guru and Kumar are determined to provide a safe upbringing for eight-year-old Riddhima and nine-year-old Aradhya.

Guru’s will host a “So Long for Now” celebration on Jan. 3 as a display of gratitude for the community.
