Emma Candy, a senior at Conwell-Egan and one of the school’s basketball stars turns to play music on a guitar when she needs to relax, writes Melissa Hanejko for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Candy, who taught herself to play, usually can be found strumming her favorite songs from Metallica or Alice in Chains.

“I’ve always liked older music, and I decided to try playing the guitar,” said Candy.

The forward/center plays with her team in the Philadelphia Catholic League, which puts them against some of the state’s top teams and players. While that ended up leading to some discouragement in the past, Candy has come into the new season with a different mindset.

“As a captain, I try to keep everyone happy and relaxed,” she said. “We play tough teams, but I don’t want to let that get us down. I want everyone to have fun while doing the best we can, especially with this being my senior year.”

Candy has been essential in her team’s great start of the season. So far, the Eagles are 3-0, including a victory against a tough Villa Joseph Marie team.
