Six senior students from Upper Bucks County Technical School (UBCTS) had a momentous meeting with NASA representatives to present their manufactured tang devices.

These devices are crucial for the robotic arm of a NanoRack CubeSat Deployer, designed to launch small, 4-inch-square satellites from the International Space Station

This project falls under the NASA HUNCH (High Schools United with NASA to Create Hardware) program, an initiative offering high school students unique educational experiences by producing hardware training items for the International Space Station.

The satellites, containing experiments for universities and businesses, require precision in their manufacturing.

The students produced parts with accuracy within thousandths of an inch, also providing detailed documentation of the materials and chemicals used.

Everett Cupak, a senior at UBCTS, expressed how working with NASA elevated the students’ standards and opened unforeseen opportunities.

This collaboration marks a historic first, with high school students manufacturing parts for the NanoRack CubeSat Deployer.

“Today, we enthusiastically celebrate their remarkable accomplishments as they aim for the stars and contribute to the limitless possibilities of our future,” said Dr. Michael Herrera, Executive Director at UBCTS, highlighting the significance of their partnership with NASA.
