The lost “Alice in Wonderland” sculpture garden of Sarobia, which captivated visitors in the 1920s, has been unearthed and brought back to life within Neshaminy State Park, writes Carl LaVO for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The garden, originally created by prominent Philadelphia naturalists Sara and Robert Logan, was rediscovered by local YouTuber Tom Nally during the pandemic.

Nally, inspired by the garden’s historical significance, launched a volunteer-driven restoration project, which he chronicled in a YouTube series titled “This Is Tom’s World.”

The extensive restoration work has reinvigorated the whimsical spirit of Sarobia, including the reemergence of its once-famous life-sized chessboard where VIP guests played as human chess pieces.

This area, alongside revitalized gardens and new additions like a sundial, has transformed the site into a reflection of its former glory.

Sarobia, a wedding gift to the Logans, evolved into a live-in art colony by the 1930s.

The estate was bequeathed to the state as a wildlife preserve after Robert Logan’s death.

With the chessboard and other elements now restored, the hope is to install historical signage to educate visitors on Sarobia’s rich past, ensuring the Logans’ legacy and their unique contribution to the area’s cultural history are not forgotten.
