While 70 percent of the U.S. will buy plastic trees this season, Bucks County tree farms are encouraging celebrants to cut down their own.

While 70 percent of Americans will buy plastic trees this holiday season, many Bucks County tree farms are encouraging celebrants to cut down their own, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Bob Colavita of Colavita Christmas Tree Farm in Lower Makefield emphasizes the unique joy of cutting your own tree.

“Nothing beats a real, fresh cut tree,” he tells the Bucks County Courier Times.

To maintain a fresh-cut tree, it’s crucial to water it daily and monitor it regularly to prevent fire hazards. It’s advised to keep these trees indoors for no more than 10 to 15 days.

When visiting a tree farm, it’s recommended to wear appropriate footwear for muddy conditions and inspect the tree for loose needles or hidden critters.

Prices are around $10 per foot, similar to street lot prices, and it’s customary to tip those who help secure the tree to your vehicle.

In Bucks County, several cut-your-own tree farms offer a festive experience. These include Colavita Christmas Tree Farm, Bryan’s Farm, Watson Tree Farm, and Winterberry Christmas Tree Farm, each with its own pricing and operational hours.
