Two Bucks County distilleries have found their way onto the list of the fourteen most interesting spots in the Philadelphia region for rye, bourbon, rum, vodka, and more, writes Nick Vadala for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Hewn Spirits in Lahaska focuses on locally grown grains, hand-crafted spirits, and reclaimed wood.

The distillery has been up and running since 2014 at its Peddlers Village location and has been making primarily brown spirits, such as its Shipmate gold rum, Dark Hollow bourbon, and Red Barn rye whiskey, among others. Hewn Spirits also makes a New Moon moonshine using local corn.

Meanwhile, Mountain Laurel Spirits in Bristol is one of the quintessential Bucks County distilleries that has around two centuries of distilling history in the Keystone State.

It is best known for its Dad’s Hat Rye whiskeys.

Mountain Laurel Spirits focuses solely on rye, with varieties that can range from honey and maple cask-finished versions to single barrel selections to an un-aged white type for the purists.

And if you are feeling adventurous, there are also some pre-mixed “pocket cocktails” available.
