Archbishop Wood High School boys’ basketball team has big plans for this season, writes Joseph Santoliquito for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Vikings, led by Miami-bound senior guard Jalil Bethea, the reigning Catholic League MVP, has set its sights on winning a Philadelphia Catholic League, a feat last achieved in 2021.

Bethea enters the new season with an impressive 1,047 career points, which places him in a good position to become the school’s all-time leading scorer. The current record is held by two-time Catholic League MVP Rahsool Diggins who achieved 1,533 career points while at Wood.

“My expectation for this team is to get everyone better,” said Bethea. “I put a lot of trust in my teammates. I feel I have a lot of underrated teammates. We have great players.”

Bethea was a member of the team when the Vikings won the Catholic League title in 2021. This time, however, he will be expected to be a leader.

“He is a remarkable player, one of the best ever,” said coach John Mosco. “He can lead us to the promised land.”
