The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will oversee the whitewater releases from the Nockamixon State Park dam.

Whitewater boating enthusiasts will be gathering in Bucks County next month when water from Lake Nockamixon is released into Tohickon Creek.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will oversee the whitewater releases from the Nockamixon State Park dam from Nov. 4 -5 from 9 AM – 4 PM each day. The transfer of the waters will provide suitable whitewater boating conditions downstream through Ralph Stover State Park, located in the area of Pipersville.

“This is technical whitewater with Class 3 and 4 rapids that require boating skills,” the department said online. “Boaters should be aware of and abide by the safety code of the American Whitewater Affiliation.”

Suggested hours for viewing the release and boating activity will be from 8 AM – 5 PM at the park. Releases usually happen on a semi-annual basis.

“Water releases are eagerly awaited by whitewater paddling enthusiasts, drawing skilled kayakers, canoeists, and occasional rafters from throughout the Northeastern United States.”
