Gov. Josh Shapiro announced earlier this week his administration is preparing to unveil Pennsylvania’s economic development plan focusing on attracting and retaining businesses by year’s end, writes Paul J. Gough for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Shapiro said the plan will guide Pennsylvania’s business attraction and growth efforts and help the commonwealth compete against neighboring states.

His administration’s main goal is to quickly and comprehensively get the state working on what he terms “the speed of business.”

This includes cutting red tape in government and reforming the permitting process as well as becoming more competitive in luring new businesses to Pennsylvania and retaining and growing the existing ones.

“We’ve heard loud and clear from folks in the business and labor communities about how we must do more to attract businesses and support the businesses and workers who are already here, and compete with our neighboring states,” said Shapiro.

He added that the economic development plan will be the first concrete comprehensive plan in two decades. It builds on the state’s strengths in life sciences, agribusiness, AI, robotics, advanced manufacturing, and energy.
