The new Children’s Village is almost twice the size of the old one.

Three years after a tornado destroyed Doylestown Hospital’s preschool, children are once again on campus enjoying the new and improved Children’s Village, writes Ed Doyle for TAPinto Doylestown.

The building that was home to the old preschool and childcare center was damaged so badly by a tornado in August of 2020 that the hospital was forced to rebuild it from the ground up.

“I remember sitting in my office,” said Doylestown Health CEO and President Jim Brexler during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, “and I saw the winds start to blow, and I saw the cars start to move.”

Just moments later, he heard a tornado had hit the preschool building. Hospital staff immediately rushed to move more than 200 children across the street and into the hospital.

Despite the building being declared a total loss, the hospital decided to rebuild Children’s Village.

“The highest priority of this organization is taking care of families and taking care of our associates,” said Brexler.

The new Children’s Village is almost twice the size of the old one. It offers several specialty areas such as a playhouse designed for family gatherings and activities and a dedicated library space.
