Bucks County Government Names Sept. 28 ‘Tony Chapman Day’ for Local Coach

The beloved basketball coach was honored by local officials.

Officials from the Bucks County Government helped honor a beloved basketball coach with a major proclamation.

Led by Commissioner Gene DiGirolamo, officials gathered at Holy Ghost Preparatory School, located at 2429 Bristol Pike in Bensalem, to honor Tony Chapman, who was the coach of the school’s basketball team for 45 years before retiring this year.

To honor his legacy as a major figure in local sports, the Bucks County Government declared a proclamation naming Sept. 28, 2023, as “Tony Chapman Day” throughout the County of Bucks. Several state and local officials attended the event to give speeches, along with Chapman himself speaking about his career and his legacy.

Chapman graduated from the school in 1971. Seven years later, he began coaching the team and became a fixture of the school’s culture as well as the local high school sports scene.

Throughout his career, he saw his team win 928 games. He is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in thew school’s history.

“Cheers to retirement, Coach!” the Bucks County Government said online.
