Temple University aims to have its next president in place for the start of the 2024-25 academic year, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The North Philadelphia institution outlined a process in the search for the president on Thursday which includes the naming of a Temple-affiliated search advisory committee and the hiring of two firms to lead the search.

The university also plans to kick off a listening tour this month to engage with different stakeholder groups as the process gets underway.

The search follows the tumultuous tenure and March resignation of former President Jason Wingard. In the interim, the school named former university provost JoAnne Epps acting president.

However, Temple University Board Chair Mitchell Morgan acknowledged that finding the right person for the permanent role is no small undertaking.

“Our last president lasted 22 months, so we know we have headwinds, but we really believe that the mission and the passion of what we do will overcome some of those headwinds,” he said. “But we’re not going to settle because if we don’t find the right person, we have a great acting president in JoAnne Epps and we don’t have a gun to our head.”
