Members of the Bucks County community recently came together to dedicate a bridge in Buckingham to a local war hero.

On Sept. 21, Bucks County Bridge 161 was renamed the Private First Class Allan George Griffin Memorial Bridge after the namesake solider, a native of Newtown, New Jersey who lost his life in the Vietnam War in 1967.

On Feb. 22 of that year, Griffin, who had been in Vietnam for close to two months, was killed as a result of friendly fire. During his life, he had lived in the areas of Honesdale, Pottstown, Doylestown, and New Hope before being deployed.

“At barely 23 years old, PFC Griffin was called to serve his country and like so many of his generation he bravely answered,” said Commissioner Chair Bob Harvie. “We are indebted to him for his service and sacrifice, and it is an honor to dedicate this bridge in his name.”

Last month, Bucks County Bridge 313 was named in memory of William Warren Breece, a United States Army Warrant Officer killed during the Vietnam War.
