As part of its 2019 Comprehensive Plan, Sellersville Borough has been making major changes to turn itself into a cultural destination, writes Emily Rizzo for the WHYY.

In the last three years, the borough has approved almost $80 million worth of development projects.

The plan was developed along with the Bucks County Planning Commission. It began in 2016, with a community survey that made it clear that most residents were “genuinely concerned and willing to invest in revitalization.”

From there, the borough hired Stephen Barth of Barth Consulting Group to, along with borough manager Eileen Bradley, try and court new businesses and developers.

According to Barth, the historic Sellersville Theater is at the heart of the revitalization efforts. The 40-foot mural that was unveiled in June at the theater has become a symbol for the borough’s revitalization efforts.

“Five years down the road, we will have a very thriving downtown with a nightlife, populated with multiple restaurants, breweries, little retail shops, that are anchored, still, by the Sellersville Theater,” Barth said.

There are already some additions, including an independent bookstore, a rare coins and metals shop, and a cafe that serves homemade kielbasa.
