Construction for a Wawa store and gas station in Newtown could begin soon under certain stipulations from the township.

After years of discussions, pushback, and litigation, a new Wawa is making its way to Bucks County, leaving one town with mixed feelings.

Supervisors from Newtown Township have approved a new Wawa location to be set up on the Newtown Bypass, right near the Crossing Community Church. The company who has been pushing the new location, Provco Pinegood, is the same one that pushed for the controversial Wawa location in Holland, which was recently shut down by officials and judges in that township.

“The Township agrees that the [convenience] store and fueling station may be operated 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year at the discretion of the operator,” documents said.

The decision was met with mixed reactions from those who voted on the matter. Supervisor John Mack took to social media to say that this could be the beginning of the “Newtown Zoning Armageddon”.

The chain has been opening several new locations through the county. Just recently, they opened new spots in Falls Township and Doylestown.
