Peter Saylor, a Philadelphia architect and civic leader, recently passed away at the age of 81.
He is remembered for his passion for renovating historic buildings and for mentoring young people interested in design and architecture, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Saylor was dubbed the “museum doctor” because many of his projects included museums. When you look at the Philadelphia cityscape today, you can see his impact throughout Old City, Center City, West Philadelphia and Chestnut Hill as well as many other parts of town.
He practiced architectural design for more than 50 years and his local projects include work at the Woodmere Art Museum, Franklin Institute, Philadelphia Zoo, University of Pennsylvania, and Drexel University.
