A museum in Bucks County has prepared an exhibit to share local history and celebrate the holiday of Juneteenth.

The African American Museum of Bucks County, located at 215 East Richardson Avenue in Langhorne, has set up an exhibit dedicated to Juneteenth at Sesame Place. It was opened to the public on June 5 and will be available until June 28.

“You can visit the exhibit at Sesame Place in the Sesame Studio Theater open during park hours,” the museum said online. “Admission to the exhibit is included in the purchase of your Sesame Place park ticket.”

The museum, a nonprofit organization, has shared the important history of African Americans in the Bucks County area for years. Their goal is to honor “the legacy of the African American experience, inspiring pride in our heritage, educating about the diverse journey of our people, sharing stories that depict our shared ancestry, thus enriching the lives of Bucks County families,” according to their website.

Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday on June 19, 2021. It had been celebrated in small areas of the country since 1866, originating in the area of Galveston, Texas.
