Housing development is slated to begin on the former Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School site in Norristown after the property sat vacant for a dozen years, writes Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The site will be developed into 325 residential units including both townhomes and apartments.

The two adjoined properties at the site were acquired by Wayne-based Progressive New Homes from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for a combined $3 million. The school closed in 2010 and the building will be demolished.

The first phase of construction is expected to start in July at the sports field on the school property. It includes 90 for-sale multiplex townhomes and is planned to be finalized within three years, according to Progressive New Homes President Sarah Peck.

The second phase will start later this year and include four buildings with 200 garden-style apartments, along with a pool and a clubhouse.

The third phase with 35 rental townhomes is expected to begin in 2025.

For-sale homes are anticipated to range from around the high $200,000s to the low $400,000s.

“I feel really good about the market, the location,” said Peck.
