The couple utilized international influences to decorate their unique home.

Jayme Trott and Bud Johnson enriched their Holland home during a recent renovation with colorful items they acquired during their many trips abroad, especially to Mexico, writes Terri Akman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“After 17 years, we wanted a more contemporary look,” said Trott.

The community carriage two-story home has three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The couple hired designer Shila Griffith, who made one of their favorite paintings from a Mexico trip the centerpiece for the entire redesign. She used the painting’s colorful tones as inspiration to ensure that the work of art would remain the focal point.

Meanwhile, they chose to adorn the dining room with a series of Aboriginal-style paintings that Trott and Johnson bought in Australia. There are also art quilts in Johnson’s office and a hallway.

Trott was especially pleased with the kitchen renovation.

“I wanted a large island where we could eat, include storage, and I could use for cooking space,” she said. “The most fun thing I’ve done to utilize the island was giving a croissant baking class as a church auction item.”
