The nonprofit is helping local senior citizens feel holiday joy year round.

Cheryl Campbell, of Morrisville, is on a mission to bring joy to seniors in her community, writes Beccah Hendrickson for 6abc.

Campbell founded and serves as the executive director of The Christmas Gala, a nonprofit that wants to bring Christmas to the elderly throughout the entire year.

Earlier this week, Campbell and her team visited the Morristown Senior Services Center, where they hosted a “Surprise A Senior” giveaway.

“They just want to know that somebody cares,” said Campbell.

The nonprofit was founded 15 years ago, but its programming changed during the pandemic.

“During COVID, we discovered that the seniors, not that they were forgotten, but they were sad, they were lonely,” she said.

So her team decided to build bags for the elderly and drop them off at their doors.

Now that gathering is safe again, Campbell has continued hosting events in person. During the last giveaway, over 70 seniors went shopping for household items for free. They also got bags filled with season-specific items. All of these events and gifts are intended to make seniors smile.

Volunteers also love to see how much their efforts are appreciated.
