The air quality in the Philadelphia region has become worse due to wildfires in Canada.

Residents of Bucks County are continuing to deal with smoky and unsafe air conditions as foreign wildfires continue to rage on.

Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced a Code Red Air Quality Action Day for June 7 due to smoke that originated from wildfires in Canada. Overtime, the smoke has moved south into the United States and is now affecting several parts of Pennsylvania.

Earlier the same day, the department had declared a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day. A Code Red “warns of unhealthy pollution levels for all”, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Other local areas being affected include the counties of ChesterDelawareMontgomery, and Philadelphia.

“Poor air quality conditions persist throughout Pennsylvania due to smoke from wildfires in eastern Canada,” the department said in a statement. “Residents are encouraged to stay indoors and minimize spending time outdoors.”

Current weather patterns are pushing smoke from wildfires in eastern Quebec. The department is forecasting this to continue until Friday for most of Pennsylvania.
